Reception Areas_Unique Spaces/Ceilings

Reception areas are the first places people see when they enter. This makes it all the more important to create a great first experience for someone. Receptions can be fun and bright or warm and subdued, depends on what the client is wanting for the project. However, reception areas need to have seating and a welcoming environment. Desks usually have a higher countertop and a lower countertop so wheelchair users can use the desk too. Seating should also be thought of in the mindset of universal design. Anyone could be walking into that business.

Specifically with my Connex project, I will have a mix of seating. I want the space to feel close with a lower ceiling and cozy with warm colors and few bright colors. The seating will have to give support, so clients that are visiting the clinic can easily get up. However, the businessmen there for a conference may be waiting for a time and may need something a little bit more comfortable.

Ceilings can also be unique and fun. But they must also be catered to the project. You would not want loud colors in a relaxing environment. I am thinking about using some "clouds" in the open workstation area and some wooden slats in the reception and cafe. I am hoping that the wooden slats will keep those areas business causal with a classy edge. Long hallways and conference rooms will have cove lighting and a stepped drywall ceiling.
