Topic of Choice_2018 Design Showcase Award of Merit

When visiting Healthcare Magazine's website, I am greeted immediately by the winning project for the 2018 Design Showcase Award of Merit, the University of Iowa Stead Family Children's Hospital. This project appealed to me because of the bright colors and fun aspect. And both of those elements are perfect for a child's hospital.

With a curvilinear plan that supports onstage/offstage circulation, includes parent-only respite rooms, has a building orientation to maximize outdoor view, and the pursuit of LEED Silver certification this hospital is one to provide great care. They even have their own press box on the roof to view the nearby football stadium!

Today it seems that more and more healthcare designs are catering towards families getting experiences. Maybe the experiences allow for the patients to forget about their illness just for a little while. This could allow for a faster recovery time. Hospitals are stepping up their game!
